Is there a way to copy file permissions from one linux webhost account to a separate identical account?

Posted on January 24th, 2010 by admin

I’m transferring my website from one webhost to another and i’m getting all kinds of file permission errors. Instead of going through every file and folder and match up the permissions, is there a way to copy files/folders AND their permissions from one web (ftp) account to another?

Right now I download the files from my old linux account to my windows local machine (where you lose file permissions), and then upload those permissions back to the new account.

if you are using a good ftp client, you should be able to chmod at the public_html level. So chmod 755 and it’s fine.

Or – if you are using ssh , do a recursive chmod like this :
$ chmod -R 755 public_html/

not able to access my website www.xsmaza.com, should contact ISP or webhosting co.?

Posted on January 24th, 2010 by admin

i got a website few days back and was working well, but after 3 days it stopped opening in my browser, but was opening in proxy websites. all other websites are also opening. so should i contact my internet services provider or webhosting service provider?

Initiating server query …
Looking up IP address for domain: www.xsmaza.com
The IP address for the domain is: 74.55.45.154
Connecting to the server on standard HTTP port: 80
[Connected] Requesting the server’s default page.
The server returned the following response headers:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Mon, 18 Jan 2010 23:54:55 GMT
Server: Apache/2.2.12 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.12 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/5.2.9
X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.9
Connection: close
Transfer-Encoding: chunked
Content-Type: text/html
Query complete.

No problem with the hosting service. Try clearing the cache, cookies and making sure the IP didn’t get blocked some way. Be sure to thoroughly refresh the page when you enter the URL.

Which Ecommerce webhosting to use?

Posted on January 24th, 2010 by admin

I want to host my ecommerce website. It’s an online retail with lots of features like shopping cart, inventory database, guestbook etc.

Can you recommend some cheap and user friendly web hosting services?

Alternative idea… go with ANY host that has Apache/PHP/MySQL and then install Drupal and it’s eCommerce add-in module. It gives you all the features you’re looking for, without locking you into one brand/company.

http://drupal.org

Here are some other features to consider as you compare hosting plans…

Can i use the same webhosting server?

Posted on January 19th, 2010 by admin

OK now my boss has a unlimited sized web hosting server and has 1 registered domain name. If i was to share the server with him.. could i install a completly different website on it aswell?
His website is a ecommerce website and i want to create a seperate website how would i do this.
i have permission to do it if i can

Sure, providing he allows you to. That’s what servers are made for. Most web hosting companies have hundreds, if not thousands of sites on each server they own.

What is webhosting, what do they do for you? And what is a domain name and how can I obtain one? Thanks a lot

Best webhosting for music websites?

Posted on January 19th, 2010 by admin

Hi,
I want to start a new music website .can any one help me in finding the best web hosting company which has reasonable pricing and provides enough space to store all the songs in web space.

Any suggestions on suitable programming languages for this website development.

I recommend one of these http://www.webhostingtable.com

Fatcow has the best offer right now.
Their standard price is $88/year
but they have the 50% sale right now.

Disk space: Unlimited
Bandwidth: Unlimited
A Free domain name
Unlimited domains and subdomains

Price: $44/year

They’re one of the oldest hosting companies, founded 1998, they’re also one of the largest, currently hosting about 500,000 websites.
Their hosting plan includes a web builder, so you can create your site just by drag and drop (without any programming), or you could install WordPress (easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content. WordPress is great because there are thousands of free themes and a lots of plugins so you can really customize it. You can, of course, program the site yourself from scratch, but it’s pretty hard. The most popular combo is HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Javascript.

Posted on January 19th, 2010 by admin

I want to use filezilla 0_9_27 to upload my website pages to go daddy.com. Does anyone know how to use filezilla?

For hostname put your domain name, then fill in your username and password and you should be able to connect.

If you still can’t figure it out consider switching to http://www.hostamina.com for web hosting – they’ll help you every step of the way.
